4 Tips To Prepare For Wedding Gown Shopping

Wedding dresses come in so many different styles and fabrics that it can be hard to decide which one is right for you on your big day.

That is where we come in to help.

Location, Location, Location

Take into considerations your venue location if you have already chosen it. Doing a wedding on the beach? Then a gown chosen for a city ballroom wedding may not be a good fit. If you are getting married in a cathedral you might not want a short slip dress that could be mistaken as a cocktail dress. Taking into account the type of fabric is important too. You want to stick to linen and organdy for summer weddings and velvet and brocade are best for winter weddings.

Spend time sorting through Pinterest , bridal magazines or websites to see if you have a clearer picture of what styles you’re most interested in. Create a Pinterest Board of all the pictures of wedding dresses you are interested in to make it easier to convey what you are looking for.

Start Early

It’s never really too early to start trying on gowns to find out what styles you prefer but when you find the gown it’s time to stop shopping. There are many other aspects of planning that need to be done after you select your gown which will set the tone for flowers, invitations, table décor ect.

We recommend leaving yourself at a minimum six to eight months of time to place your order and have your gown altered, which can take an additional two months. Timing is everything.

Trying On Wedding Dresses

Most Bridal shops work by appointment so that you can spend as much time as needed and have undivided attention .

Limiting your entourage to a few of your closest family members and friends will help you hear yourself think and not just everyone else’s opinions.

Be open to trying on other style gowns, many gowns look much different on than on the rack, and if you don’t like it you just try on the next gown, no harm done. More often than not brides choose gowns that are the opposite of what they initially were envisioning.

Bring Backup

It is important to bring one or two people to help you pick the perfect dress. Bring someone who knows your taste and will help you make the best decision. Also, bring any accessories you plan on wearing on the big day with you. This will help you be able to envision your complete look on your wedding day. Don’t get discouraged, not everyone has that magical “aha” moment immediately, sometimes it takes going back through the top contender gowns and seeing it on again with your accessories a second time. Some brides have a hard time with decision making in all aspects of planning and that’s ok! This is probably the most important day and decisions you have made for something and it’s ok to sleep on it and give yourself the time you need to feel sure about your choice.
